Default What to do if in the army.

Hi guys.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to carry out a mass gaining program when I'm in the Army. Unlike most jobs the Army changes things in two ways:

1. Physical training is conducted every morning for 40 minutes and is completly random, but usually is a 6k run, a bodyweight circuits of high intensity low weight, Hill sprints, pack marching and sometimes team sports like touch football. Weekends are free for rest, though.

2. The army requires me to take on fitness goals too. Although I want to bulk up the Army measures fitness based on how many pushups, situps, heaves and how fast you run the 2.4km run.

So my first question is: Is the focus of this program: Type IIb muscle fibers going to be useless to me because they fatigue after 1 minute and would essentially become deadweight in a Run? They'd be ok for pushups I suppose but you're allowed 2 minutes to conduct them So I think they'd be primarily IIa?

My second and perhaps most important question is: Which should I do?

a. Accept the army training as my workouts and have my pre/post workout meals with these sessions. Just go with it wether its a run, or if its a circuit go as hard as I can and try and get as much fatigue as possible. I often have an hour spare afterwards so say for example we did 40 minutes bodyweight circuit I could quickly duck to the gym and do some dumbell flies in the 20 minutes after the session. stuff like that.

b. Conduct army training in the morning however still go to the gym 3 times a week and have my pre/post meals at the gym sessions. Space the two things as far apart as possible and rest the rest of the time.

c. Something else the experts (you guys) can come up with.

The concern with all of the options is one day I might do a great chest and tricep workout then 3 days later the sergeants are like "OK ITS PUSHUP TIME BITCHES" Or something to that effect and I am forced to go to failure again without having fully rested or recuperated.

Argh. I confuse.

Thanks for reading and putting the time in to help.
