Default back/sholder area pain

is there an exercise i could replace the stiff legged deadlift with because everytime i do them i get a sharp burning pain in my back left side up toward my shoulders, i can even feel it when i'm lifting just the bar with the stiff legged deadlifts, i have no problem doing any other exercises in the program though
