Default Staggering caloric intake?

I saw something written about it on the internet and I'd like to ask you guys if you know anything about it. If you are worried about losing muscle when trying to lose fat, apparantly you can stagger your meals so that you go in cycles of different amounts of eating (i.e. one week you may eat a lot, the next week less, etc.). Does anyone have any idea what this is?
