Which motion is the negative motion?

The negative is the resistance against the natural pull or push of the weight. When doing bench press, the weight naturally wants lower itself, so the controlling or slowing down the lowering portion is the negative motion. When doing tricep pushdowns, the weight naturally pulls your arms up, so the negative is the upward pull of the weight.
