Default How bad is using the Smith Machine For squats?

I know it is strongly advised not to use a smith machine, but exactly how much would it affect my progress using it for squats? I say this, not just because I workout alone, but because there is nowhere I can rack the bar heigh enough to get my neck/shoulders underneath to lift it!

I also don't like the look of the shoulder press seat as it looks a little too high and is mounted to the rack.
