Default correct grip for pullups and bentover rows

Which is a better grip for these exercises.....normal grip or thumbless grip? Does one or the other put more emphasis on the biceps or back? I have been doing pullups with a thumbless grip for awhile now and one day did it with a normal grip and i seemed to feel it more in my biceps than my back.
