Default Shoulder Press !

Hopefully everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

I went to the gym today and was pretty packed. Anyways I got to the shoulder press workout and the seats with the back rests were already taken so I had to use the "stool-like" seat. I couldn't lift as much. AFter the other seats (with the back rests) freed up I jumped on them and realized that I have been using my back to aid me in the lift of the shoulder press.

Now, am I doing this wrong? Should I not be using the back rest as an aide int he lift?

I should state that I exclusively use dumbbells (the gym does not own barbells)

Thanks !
