After over 10 years helping skinny guys and gals gain weight, I have seen things change…
When I started out, there were no weight gain programs or weight gain experts.
If you did a search for “how to gain weight”, on the popular search engine at that time (Alta Vista), there were no results to be found.
There were no Clickbank e-books, no Youtube workout videos and certainly no online muscle building diets or workouts.
How things have changed!
Flash-forward to today… Almost daily there is a new product proclaiming the answers to your weight gain woes!
Do a quick search on Google, Youtube or Clickbank and you will come up with hundreds of videos, ebooks and websites offering advice on how you can gain weight.
Everyone seems to be an expert, and you can get their expert advice and learn how easy it is to build muscle for just $29.95, lol.
Despite all of this, and despite the fact that there is more weight gain information online than at any time before, skinny guys are still asking the same questions:
- How do I gain weight?
- What foods do I need to eat to gain weight?
- How should I exercise to gain weight?
- What supplements really help you gain weight?
And the list goes on.
So the question I have to ask is WHY? If there is so much information readily available, why isn’t it being used?
The first reason is INFORMATION OVERLOAD!
My friend Tony Blauer calls this “Analysis Paralysis”.
It occurs when you have so much information on a topic that you either don’t know where to start OR you don’t want to start until you get more information. Eventually you start to believe that everything must be accounted for and that everything should “add up” before you can begin.
This will NEVER occur!
Listen, it’s OK if the planets are not aligned before you start your program. You will tweak and adjust things as you go. Getting started should be the primary goal. This is the most difficult part of any weight gain program.
The longer you delay the harder it will be for you to finally get started.
The second reason is VALUE.
Sure you have a ton of information, but what’s it worth to you? Typically, something that is obtained freely has no perceived value unless you can assign ownership.
You could be reading the best article on how to gain weight, but if you don’t know anything about the person who wrote it, or if no one else can add to it’s validity it has no value to you. Which means you will most likely not take any of it to heart.
For example, say that you read an anonymous web page which recommends that you “Stand on your left foot for 60 minutes after each training session and you will gain 300% more muscle.” The article goes on to say “I managed to gain 78 lbs of muscle over the course of 18 weeks doing this. Here’s the process…”
Now I would say that person was a nut, but… what if the person who wrote it was Ronnie Coleman?
That adds a different perspective and more value to the information, and I guarantee that someone will be trying to do it… Of course this is just an example and I’m pretty sure that Ronnie Coleman doesn’t do that!
So, Who wrote the information is just as important as the information itself.
Let me ask you, what weight gain information would you consider to be the most valuable?:
A) Info from someone who is a naturally huge & muscular professional bodybuilder
B) Info from someone who is an expert on losing fat and getting a six pack
C) Info from someone who is thin because they do too much aerobic exercise
D) Tips from someone who is chronically thin and has been so their entire life?
Personally, the information provided by D would be the most pertinent to MY problem and would therefore have the most value to me.
Now let’s be realistic, you don’t have to be an actor to teach someone how to act, but it certainly does give the instructor a different perspective, which they can convey to their trainee.
I’m sure that A, B and C can “teach” you from an instructional standpoint, but D can be more than an educator, they are also a role model. A testament that it can be done.
Please post your comments if you have any additional reasons to suggest!
In August, I will be launching a new website that is going to “change” the way you learn how to build muscle.
The site will be devoted exclusively to teaching hardgainers how to build muscle quickly and safely.
- I will provide members with step-by-step muscle building programs written by true hardgainers. They are not just teaching “theory” they are the people who have been there and done it!
- It will provide members with tele-classes and coaching sessions with muscle building experts who had to work for every pound of muscle.
- It will provide members with continued support and motivation from other members trying to achieve the same goal AND from those that have already.
Stay tuned for more information coming soon…
